I traveled to Malaysia with Cikgu Sam and Joel this past Malaysia trip for the Fight Masters filming. I must say that I am very proud of all those involved. Not just the Silat players involved, but the film crew also.

The crew did an amazing job, and Lamb has a great artistic talent. I got to sneak a peek at some of the footage while they viewed it. The man knows his stuff. Thanks to the crew for making the experience a good one.

To all the Silat participants: You gave your all, got beat up and did great jobs with the phrase "okay, one more time." You all make Silat proud. All the Cikgu involved made the experiece great especially with Mandi Minyak. For me, just to be in the atmosphere is something I'll never forget.

Fight Masters: Silat

CONFIRMED!! 

Fight Masters: Silat - will air on 31 August (Merdeka Day) in Malaysia! This show was filmed in HD over the course of 10 days. Will feature Joel Champ as the main character to is brought to Malaysia by his Cikgu, Cikgu Sam to continue his training in Silat Seni Gayong. 

This is an incredible glimpse in Silat Seni Gayong! I was fortunate to have traveled to Malaysia to observe the shoot. I can tell you from first hand witness, this is set to be very informative and very insightful. Joel is taught by Cikgu Jazwan Kahar, Cikgu Kahar Redza, Cikgu Kamal, Cikgu Malik and many other of Silat Seni Gayong's Silat masters in Malaysia. Joel has trained in Silat Seni Gayong for over 14 years. His journey on this TV show is incredible. The filming schedule was intense, they filmed everyday even on the one "day off." Joel was asked to do many things he has never done before, including sport fighting a SEA champion (South East Asia Games), and more traditional training and tests of faith. 

It will air in other regions of the world after the Malaysia airdate. I'll keep you posted on the other airdates when they are made known. Bravo Joel!!

Fall Semester At COD '09

Classes start the end of August at COD. Classes will be held 8-10 am Saturdays. There are two classes- Malay Silat I and Malay Silat II. If you have never signed up before, sign up for Silat I and we'll move you around depending on Skill level. If Silat II fills up, just sign up for Silat I, we know where you belong and will move you around as needed. 

Hopefully the Silat Club will be up and running by the time fall semester starts. We'll fill you in more as information from COD becomes available.

In Malaysia

Hi all, 

We are in Malaysia!! Woo-hoo! Long plane flight :) They started filming yesterday even though it was just supposed to be a meet and greet. They filmed for 7 hours. I'll never be a movie star. How BORING to watch filming. It's like watching paint dry. But it was great to see all the students and the Cikgu here again. I'm happy to get to see them for a few weeks. I'll post pictures soon. I need to take some more and I'll post them here or facebook.
